Travesty of Left Liberal Intellectualism - Same Sex Marriages - Part1

True Liberals and Urban Indians are allowing themselves to be transformed into cattle.

We have become so willing to accept notions and criticism from Left Liberals that we have comfortably decided to ignore honest evaluation and interpretation of ideas and its consequences as they have become a fashionable possession to the urban folk as they sound liberal and it has the radical tinge of leftism.

Marriage benefits to LGBT community.

It was not a surprise that India at UN chose not to support marriage benefits to LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) couples and it was followed by criticism from the usual suspects, the Left Liberals and surprisingly harsh criticism was seen from true Liberals and some sane individuals criticized India for being Homophobic.

Even if the Indian Government wanted to support marriage benefits to LGBT couples, how can it possibly do?, as homosexuality is illegal in India. Delhi high court in its own right nullified section 377 of IPC and Supreme Court in its own sagacity reverted it back.

Marriage laws of any country should not be decided by others, for that matter any laws related to the society of a country should not be decided by any external institution like the United Nations. Deciding marriage laws of other countries is indirectly violating the sovereignty.

Left Liberals despise the institution of marriage and see it as an orthodox ritual which hampers progressiveness of society but for some strange reasons they feel the need to support same sex marriages. Marriage as an institution is becoming less popular among the youth, they prefer to have flings, live in relationship is more meaningful and attractive but the urban youth for unknown reasons feel that they need to support the imperative cause of same sex marriages.

Let’s for argument sake imagine that India got inspired from scandinavian nations and has legalized same sex marriages. What about the status and stand of other issues?

• Thanks to feminists, Men cannot get raped in India; will that get changed after we support same sex marriages?
• If a lesbian couple commits adultery, can they be charged? As wife cannot be charged with adultery and the same question with gay couple?
• What about child custody when a wife/husband decides to end a straight marriage to pursue homosexual relationship?
• Who is going to get alimony, after a divorce?

You may find the above questions trivial but let me proceed with another set of questions.

• It would not be easy to implement same sex marriages across all religions.
• Would the same sex marriage be forced on the majority like with the existing Hindu personal law.
• What about the division of property?
• On what basis the laws of domestic violence would be framed?
• Can the #498a law be applied on Gay and Lesbian couple?
• If Lesbian couple gets divorced, who pays to whom? Will the taxpayers money will be used to pay them as there is no male to pay?

The questions raised may sound ridiculous and silly but they would have a strong impact on the society and individuals if decisions are made without any serious deliberation on the complexity and the consequences.

The Left Liberals will not talk seriously about the above mentioned issues; they feel that the issue of same sex marriage carries more importance than the draconian laws like #498a and where divorce can be given by uttering the same word thrice.

I would request true liberals to ponder over the complexity of same sex marriages, its consequences and does it really matter to have same sex marriage when the significance of marriage is getting diminished? It’s easy to get trapped into the arguments made by Left Liberals based on surrogate ideas even though they are of least importance but they have to be resisted with facts and the unintended consequences which it may have on a complex society.

I hope Indians will not be forced to swallow the ill conceived ideas of left liberals, their support for same sex marriage is pure act of ostentation at others cost and it’s the thirst for pomposity in the elite circles which drives them to support such trivial issues where decades old important issue take a back seat.
