Thoughts on Delhi Election Results

There is nothing wrong for them to be ecstatic when their party has done exceedingly well on debut. AAP is a phenomenon, may be short or a long one but the results of the Delhi assembly election forces many to do an introspection, not the same "introspection" as mentioned by Rahul Gandhi.

Delhi went through many changes in the last decade, the migrant population got increased, and the daily wage workers from neighboring states of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar have migrated in large numbers. Elite closed circuits of Delhi do not hold the same intellectual grip in the social groups. Left Liberals of cocktail clubs have been forced to reduce the noise to accommodate new tenants who closely associate with the same brand of political cocktail.

Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread.

Anna Hazare's Anti-Corruption movement attracted the huge Indian middle class and Arvind Kejriwal was able to hijack the imagination and the anger of the middle class against politics and divert them to AAP. Arvind Kejriwal and his team vehemently worked before the elections, their commitment and hard work must be appreciated and the results prove it.

What was the opposition BJP doing when the nation was being looted on regular basis and each scam was a record in its own way? Who were writing the script for the opposition? Who are the main actors in preconceived script? Who were the directors? Who approved it? And importantly why was the act being played?

BJP failed to capture the space which was created by the corrupt Congress. The majority of the Dilli Gang of BJP was complacent, instead of muddling the state affairs in Karnataka and elsewhere it should have concentrated in forming a path and agenda for the party to attack the Govt. on various issues. The Dilli gang was acting like a Mughal durbar without any agenda or vision but was pompous for having secured their place in Delhi.

There were 2 important changes happening in the country when the Gangs of Delhi were calling shots over the nation’s state of affairs both in power and opposition – with time these changes have transformed themselves into a concrete shape.

1 - When the BJP failed to occupy the agitating ground on behalf of people over the unprecedented corruption of Congress, AAP has captured it with a tight grip, the middle class youth saw hope in AAP. Few activists who were once part of the Delhi clubs have expanded and opened up to the people, they ditched the modus-operandi of their old friends, they took on the mighty Congress and results of the Delhi elections shows that they have the support of the common man.

2 - A politician with a modest background was making his presence felt, his influence was spreading and reaching other corners of the country. The resistance to his popularity was coming from many sides including from his own party.

Socialism is the visionary younger brother of an almost decrepit despotism, whose heir it wants to be.

Just attacking the mighty congress doesn't mean anything, one hast to prove that what they are capable of and what they can deliver when given power and responsibility. The manifesto of AAP is like a step sister of NAC. One may say that promises mentioned in the manifesto cannot be delivered but they are wrong, YSR has proved that, Congress has proved that with ideas of NAC – and even AAP can deliver what it promised in its manifesto, just that economy of state will be screwed for a very long time.

Congress was able to retain its old vote bank in the Delhi elections, some suggested that this cluster of vote may not go with Congress if elections have to be held again. Arvind Kejriwal tried hard to get their votes by claiming that Batla encounter was fake, resonating separatist’s views on Kashmir and blaming BJP for Muzzaffarnagar riots. The options left for AAP are to declare that 26/11 is a RSS conspiracy, Reservations for Muslims, including some aspects of Sharia law and openly support the Communal Violence Bill.

The common man of Delhi stood with Arvind Kejriwal and the Dalits of Delhi voted for AAP. A suspicious waitress was embraced by the Gangs of Delhi but even the shadow of the chaiwallah will never be tolerated by these gangs. Wait till 2014, the chaiwallah will make his own space in Delhi.
