Arjun Reddy - Nostalgia isn't the same anymore.

I will not pretend to be hysterical and at the same time I will not shy away from strongly recommending Sandeep Reddy's "Arjun Reddy".

It is like an extinct mammal coming back to normalcy as the average appetite of Telugu audience to digest 3 hours of celluloid work without regular songs, group dances and anti-gravity fights is a rarity.

A societic individual has an instinct to protect him/herself by not expressing inner reactions due to various reasons, but the same individual would get an impetus to do the opposite when gets satisfied with things which do not respect the status quo.

My hunch is that Sandeep Reddy conceived "Arjun Reddy" as an adolescent journey of a medical student who has, according to me, the below priorities.
1-Love
2-Relationships
3-Profession

Director/Writer created whirlpool of emotions with the above 3 parameters which are hastily being labelled as "realistic", as I firmly believe that a filmmaker like any other creator has his own biases, innuendos, aberrations and philosophy.

There is a good probability that the director has his own influences and inspirations from the works of other filmmakers but that doesn't take away the originality in the narration and execution of the film.

Without any hesitation, I felt that "Arjun Reddy" was puckish, murky and rejuvenating without any cheap gimmicks which usually insults the intelligence of the audience.

Inspirations, Influences and adulation of your own work can kill the organic growth of a creator, once Sri Sri said "It took me 10 years to get rid of the influence of Devulapalli Krishna Sastri and Viswanata Satyanarayana on me".

One of Marxists clarion call was "You have nothing to lose but your chains", in the process they have chained themselves to their ideology by refusing diversity of thoughts. By using cuss words often ignoring the decorum and surroundings there is a lurking danger that one can become slave to their own works without offering anything new in storytelling.

When we look back at old Telugu classics like "Mayabazar", "Gundamma Katha"; masterpieces like "Swati Muthyam", "Rudraveena" etc.. ; works of Dasari Narayana Rao, Ram Gopal Varma and others; films like "Toliprema", "Athadu" we get a flash of nostalgia. "Arjun Reddy" takes you through the emotional journey of the characters and films like these will be part of our memory because they aren't redundant. Nostalgia isn't the same anymore. By the way, I have a great dislike for the phrase "cult classic".
