The Curious case of Censorship

I take no responsibility whatsoever for any so called obnoxious feelings which may arise while reading this post. 18+ only. Reading Blogs is injurious to Cerebrum.

The Censor B***d has always been a puzzle to me for its acts, for filmmakers it’s a devil and for viewers it’s a soft target. Passion of a filmmaker can only be understood by filmmakers, the infatuation for movies can only be explained by movie-buffs and the burden of social responsibility for making our society cleaner and evil-free can only be understood by them.
Let’s go back into History. Freedom of Expression was a risky business for all the governments and Indira Gandhi was petrified by it, suppressing the freedom of Expression by Govt is nothing new but the suppression of it by institutions is the most dangerous practice. The inception of such ideas with respect to our country points to our Desi Comrades – The curriculum in history text books is the best example, where Karl Marx is suffocated in 42 lines and their own Swami Vivekananda is liberated in 2 lines.

Pran, Kishore Kumar etc… were some celebrities who verbally opposed the emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi and the result of it is the discrimination and suppression of speech adopted by the govt. A song in which he praises Vajpayee, Morarji Desai, Advani and Jayaprakash Narayan was banned. In those days, Doordarshan was the only channel and the government planned to keep the common man in their homes by telecasting the film ‘Bobby’ but the people found the speeches of Jayaprakash Narayan more captivating. Let’s get back to the Censor B***d.

Do you remember that Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Paanch’ did not get a green signal from the Censor B***d, the reason behind it is said to be that ‘Paanch’ was not in good taste, I am compelled to ask this question ‘How does the scene where a hero f***s on a lady becomes tasteful?’

A truck dumps dead bodies into a graveyard for a burial, the scene finds no objection from anyone, because it’s an art film and it’s a secular film and very importantly it’s was directed by Nandita Das and if you get inspired from this scene and try to emulate it with the ethnic cleansing of a communal society due to unfortunate circumstances then you will be termed as some *******vadi. Sharmila Tagore says that India is not ready for watching Lars von Trier’s film ‘Antichrist ‘ and I wonder what is India ready for? Is India ready to watch ‘Sita sings the Blues?’

Dev.D gets a ‘A’ certificate from the Censor Board and national awardS film ‘Fashion’ does not get a ‘A’ certificate. How come Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ was allowed when we can see *-----------------* of Zeenat Aman? or in ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ where he inoculates euphemistic passion into male cinegoers. May be I am racist, but still I have to ask this question ‘Would I be termed as racist if I write a song which sounds similar to “hum kale hain to kya hua dilwale hai”?’

The king of some wood makes a superhero film which has managed to get a U certificate contains numerous references to c****h and an under 14 boy finds c****m a funny word with reference to regional word. The film ‘Rockstar’ is a very special case, the Tibetian flag has given a lot of headache to the Censor B***d and at the same time the protagonist shows _|_ finger in the film which is not blurred. This case of suppression by Censor B***d only make my suspicions stronger.

As we are now talking about making some part of the screen as blurred, let’s talk about Smoking. Remember this?

The right of the below image is the stamp released by U.S.Postal Service in honor of Bette Davis, what an irony – it’s an honor or a dishonor?

S.V.Ranga Rao, the greatest actor Telugu film industry ever produced was a brand ambassador for Berkley cigarettes. Can you imagine the fuss that would be created by media and other bullshit organization if any of the contemporary stars endorse a cigarette or alcohol brand?

Recently Smoking is censored in films and one of the reasons behind it is that children get spoiled and get attracted to smoking if they watch actors smoking on screens. With the limited knowledge I have, I can say that when children are asked not a do a particular thing then they definitely do it and the same can be applied with blurring of smoking in films I guess.

Censor B***d has recommended no to show disabled people in films as it may offend their feelings, does the disable people need such pity from the censor b***d? And how does one portray Shakuni of Mahabharatha? Or is it communal to talk about Mahabharatha?

You can’t use words like Ni amma, Ni ayya etc... in telugu films anymore, I seriously don’t understand the reasons behind such rules, or is it a conspiracy by someone? Are telugu film goers lollipop guys whose innocence will be lost when they hear such uncommon words in films? Decade ago many films in support of Naxalism and Peoples War Group (PWG) were released in Andhra Pradesh, I wonder if Censor B***d has felt any responsibility when these films were allowed to be released?

The F is beeped, the two B words are beeped so some filmmakers find different ways to express their feelings, for example Brahmanandam says ‘What the Frock?’ and the comparison to today’s women with those of the golden age with size of *****.

Ram Gopal Varma may act as if he doesn’t know what politics is about but he is the only director who knows what politics is about, the clever portrayal of politicians-Gunda nexus in ‘Gaayam’, the edifying ‘Raktha Charitra’ etc… there was a case where a certain caste was offended with the film ‘Raktha Charitra’ as their caste was being labeled as something and recently ‘Bezawada Rowdilu’ later the title was changed to ‘Bezawada’ where a song makes caste references and individuals in a smart way. Sometimes the censor b***d does it job neatly but the government’s need to grab some mileage out of something, the same happened with ‘Aarakshan’ where some state governments banned the film even without watching it.

The hypocrisy in the society is unbearable, the news channels who show the tapes of some swamy was doing something he wished without force in privacy were shown in a bad light and the same channels show the photo-shoot of calendar girls and recently the porngate as termed by media. If internet is censored by the will of a 0 Idiot and you can’t find what you are searching for then switch on the news channels, these days they show some masala stuff and the best part is its legal.
Our right to hypocrisy to impress society has leaped levels where one would deny their own existence with no shame whatsoever.
